Our Rights to Strong Bare Arms.....or something like that.

The paragraph below is making it's way around Facebook, and, no doubt, other social networking sites.  While I was on Facebook, I saw where a friend of ours, (we'll call her Mary), had re-posted this as her status.

To everyone who is calling for stricter gun laws in light of the tragedy in Tucson, may I offer this little tidbit: If guns kill people, then pencils misspell words, cars drive drunk, and spoons make people fat. Remember: Hold the person accountable for their actions, not the means they chose to utilize!!! Re-post if you agree.

I want to say now that I DO NOT disagree with "Mary" on this subject, but I really felt a need to expound a bit on it, so, below is my response to her posting. 


I believe that we do need REASONABLE gun control laws. We do need to do our best to keep guns out of the hands of the nuts who would do this sort of thing. Yes, it is a VERY fine line, but one that we all need to pay attention to and try to find the best possible solutions for. @ Mary.....Not to argue the point, (because you are right), however, pencils, cars and spoons, are not designed SPECIFCALLY for killing. Guns are, and that is how these types of people tend to want to use them. I do, however, also agree that our lawmakers tend to go WAY overboard when addressing these issues, and that the people, (as in law abiding citiziens), need to have just as much say on certain topics, THIS being one of them. Well, that's my take, do what you will with it. PS...Yes, I do arm myself and would utilize it as needed to protect myself and my loved ones, and I do believe strongly in my right, as said "law abiding citizen", to do so.

    so we each have our own opinions - and here is mine. When it comes down to it - the end of the world - there will be sooo much hate,crime,disease,famine,that we will all seem to be in huge zombie mode - and guns will be used until all ammonition is used up for protection only to be attacked by the walking dead zombies - so more strict laws aren't going to matter in the end of times

    Well....I, for one, am not about to be somebodys' lunch, so, guess I better start stocking up on more, bigger, better guns and ammo. Lots and lots and LOTS of ammo.!!! Hey, too cool! Now I know what to put on my Christmas list this year!!!

    Here! Here! Cuz! I agree with you 110%...
    Look, to those out there, my father was killed in a hunting accedent. My mother went for the rest of her life without a gun in the house. If someone would have broken in, hell who knows what could have happened.
    I, myself beleive in my second amendment rights.
    I also beleive in stronger gun laws to keep firearms out of the idiots out there that are at this time jeopardizing the saftey of millions out there.
    I know that some in my family would probably have looked at me like I'm crazy for living with guns. But I know how to use them, I know how to protect myself and my family. THAT's what it's all about.

    There are already countless gun laws out there. Enforce what's already there, enough is enough. I carry because I have the right to do so. I will not be a victim to anyone. I have made weapons available to my wife who is actually as good a shot as I am. We have both had extensive background checks in order to carry legally, practice regularly and are prepared to use them should we have to. I don't worry about home invasions, being robbed or when seconds count, the police are minutes away.
